FAQ

  • What is The Homeschool Haven ?
We are a Homeschool Enrichment Center that offers classes, clubs and events to local Palm Coast and surrounding area home school families.
  • How do we register for the program ?
Registration for each semester will open shortly before classes begin. Specific registration opening dates will be announced via our social media pages, our newsletter and through email. If you'd like to be on our email list or receive our newsletter - please drop us a line. Once registration is open you can head to our registration page on here and enroll in any classes that you are interested in !
  • What ages are the classes for ?
Currently, we are accepting students ages Preschool-6th grade. However, we do hope to extend through High School and even offer Parent Classes in the near future !
  • How much do classes cost ?
You can find all of our registration and class fee information on our classes page.
  • Can parents stay during the classes ?
The Homeschool Haven is a drop off program and is not able to accommodate adults in the classrooms. Mostly this is because it can be really difficult for our instructors to teach efficiently when there's extra adults in the environment, and our space is limited as well. There will however be plenty of opportunities for families to come and volunteer and events where you get to see all the wonderful things we’re doing in our classes.
  • Where do you meet ?
We are so graciously hosted by Palm Coast Bible Church in Palm Coast right off of US1 and Whiteview Parkway. Our address is 94 Whiteview Parkway, Palm Coast FL 32164.
  • How often do children attend classes ?
Our classes meet once a week on Thursdays.
  • Why are the classes mixed age groups ?
Life is authentically experienced in mixed age groups - and while we take into consideration learning ability, we also give credit to the vast flexibility of children's knowledge and capabilities. One of our philosophical inspirations is Dr. Maria Montessori who strongly encouraged mixed age classroom environments due to many reasons, but the main being that the younger children benefit greatly from observing and learning from the older children who serve as role models, while the older children can develop confidence and compassion working with and assisting their younger peers. It is truly a beautiful model.
  • Why don't you give homework ?
We feel that homework does more damage than good to relationships, between not only the parents and child, but also between the student, their family and the assigning teacher. We also strongly respect home time for our students and their family. These times at home we feel are better spent learning life skills, indulging in good conversation, spending time outside or in extra curricular activities, relaxing in the ways that appeal to us and just truly being able to choose how to spend your free time. Not to mention, endless surveys and studies have found that homework creates a negative attitude towards learning, and it has not been found to be linked to a higher level of academic success.
  • Does your group teach religion or from a biblical worldview ?
As a secular group, we do not endorse or promote any belief, religion, or culture. As an inclusive group, we allow our families to come and be themselves with any background, race, religion, affiliation or culture. We embrace unity with all and encourage free will by teaching children to question and research but most of all stand up for what's right. We focus on love: love of oneself, other humans, and the Earth, including its animals and plants.
  • Are your teachers certified and background checked ?
Some of our teachers possess degrees/certifications in education and other related fields but all of them are highly qualified and extremely passionate. Also, as a part of our hiring process, we require all of our teachers and staff to pass a federal background check.
